Garage Door Not To Close

Garage Door Not To Close

You arrive home from the store and you activate the wall mounted remote for your garage door as you step inside your house.  It lowers and then reverses.  You hit the button again.  Same thing.  Your garage door is having an issue.  Your day becomes interrupted.

What cause garage doors not to close?

James Thomas

There are several reasons your garage door might not close.

Misaligned or defective safety sensor

Your safety sensor is what tells your door that there is nothing blocking the way of the door.

It exists to ensure that the door does not close on items that could damage the door or on people or pets where the door might hurt them.  When the sensor is not working correctly, the door will often start to close and then reverse.

Damaged cables

Your garage door uses a cable system to pull the door up evenly.  When one of the cables is worn, the door may not open or close in a proper way.  You should never attempt to fix or adjust cables on your garage door.  They operate under tension and adjusting them may cause harm to you, your door, or your property.

Broken or worn-out springs

Your garage door system is able to lift the weight of the garage door because of your springs.

They balance the weight of the door and allow the motor to provide just enough force needed to open and close the door.

As your springs age, the operation of the door will decline.  You should never attempt to remove, replace or repair the springs on your garage door.  They operate under tension and attempting to repair them may result in serious injury.
